Working with Families with Complex needs : Many professionals from a multitude of organisations will come into contact with ‘families’ in their line of work on a daily basis and working with Families that are deficient.

The initial reason for this contact may appear quite simple but family dynamics can be complicated and complex and this in turn will impact on the work that individual professionals do.

Some may become involved because of the complexity and related concerns. Others may become involved in a fragmented way or because a number of issues have resulted in the need for a specific service.

No two situations are the same and as professionals we all need to understand this, how to manage this and how to understand the methods for dealing with the differing needs that will occur.

This course is aimed at line managers or senior practitioners who will have to manage a variety of complex issues andworking with families situations on a daily basis.

By the end of this course learners should understand:

• An overview of modern family life and what a ‘complex’ family looks like
• How families become ‘broken’ and how they can be supported
• How the government and professional agencies are tackling the complexities
• The theories behind the practise and how these can be used most effectively
• How to support staff and encourage them to reflect on their practice
